2009-2010

Elected as Municipal Councillor of a town of 1200+ residents in Southern Saskatchewan.

Committee representative for Parks and Recreation, Emergency Services and the Library Board.

Appointed as the EMO (emergency measures officer) and trained to manage and lead potential disasters that may affect the town and residents.

Legal Assistant shared between the newly founded pro bono law (PBLS) initiative, as well as the lawyer’s insurance body (SLIA) under the umbrella of the Law Society.

Handled all reception duties for both organizations and answered many inquiries about legal situations, referring to the appropriate agencies.

Gained a full understanding of governance of the law within a province, and the structures necessary to license, educate and share communications with the legal community.

Set up and worked with new legal  technologies to streamline legal practices. Instrumental in setting up procedures and systems, forms for entering and tracking data online (Adobe), and large volume case management process.

As well, provided various support duties to the Law Society on a project basis during their “going paperless” transition period, digitizing documentation.

Assisted two junior lawyers in their weekly visits to a satellite office in small community.

Managed all files (except real estate) that were in transition from Louis Stringer, who had retired and sold his client base to Anderson.

Adopted new billing and file management systems, wrapped up files in a timely fashion. Sat with clients prior to appointments with the lawyers, garnering the information necessary to assemble their file and completed all legal documentation for the lawyers. Answered basic legal questions under the supervision of counsel.
